About
A neighborhood flower shop
Three people, one workroom, and a van named Fern.

Our story
How Tamarack began
Ingrid Halvorsen grew up on a dairy farm outside Dennison and started Tamarack in 2011, selling bouquets from the back of her pickup at the Northfield farmers market. In 2016 she took the old shoe-repair shop on Division Street, and the pickup became a van.
The name comes from the tamarack, the one evergreen in Minnesota that turns gold in October and drops its needles. It’s a tree that does things its own way.
- In Northfield since 2011, on Division Street since 2016
- Every order is made in our workroom
- No wire service, no order-gathering
The people
Ingrid Halvorsen owns the shop and designs most of the sympathy and everyday work. She buys the flowers early, before the shop opens.
Dev Raman trained in Chicago and joined in 2018. He’s the one you’ll meet at a wedding consultation and the one teaching the wreath workshops.
Lucy Ortega drives the van, runs the counter on Saturdays and knows every street in Dundas.
In season (May to October) we buy from Minnesota growers. The rest of the year, flowers come from a wholesaler in Minneapolis that buys from farms in the Netherlands and Colombia.
What neighbors say
- ★★★★★
“I ordered for my mother’s birthday at 12:20 and Lucy had it on her porch by three. The card said exactly what I typed, and the flowers looked like they’d come out of someone’s garden.”
Joanna B.Same-day delivery, NorthfieldReview on Google - ★★★★★
“I was out of state when my uncle died. Ingrid called me to check the church and the service time, and the arrangement was there an hour early. She was calm and kind, and I won’t forget it.”
Marcus T.Sympathy order, sent to FaribaultReview on Google - ★★★★★
“Dev asked about our colors and the venue’s lighting before he asked about our budget. The bouquets, the arch and sixteen centerpieces came in under what we’d planned, and nothing wilted in the heat.”
Priya and Sam K.Fall wedding, 120 guests - ★★★★★
“The balsam wreath I bought last December stayed green into February on a north-facing door. I’m ordering a bigger one this year.”
Hannah L.Holiday wreath, picked upReview on Google - ★★★★★
“They called before swapping the dahlias for ranunculus and sent a photo of the vase. I said yes, and it was lovely. That’s how substitutions should work.”
Doug R.Birthday bouquet, DundasReview on Google - ★★★★★
“Took the wreath workshop with my sister. Two hours, tea and a stack of greens, and I left with something I’m proud to hang. Dev is patient with people who’ve never wired anything.”
